Saturday, 11 September 2021

From: Professor Eugene Athan, Director of Barwon South West Public Health Unit

COVID update

There were five new COVID-19 cases announced today in the Barwon South West region.

These people are isolating at their homes in Mount Duneed, Clifton Springs, Herne Hill and Hamlyn Heights.

The Herne Hill case is linked to a known positive case. Further interviews have revealed one exposure site which has been published on the Department of Health website.

The Hamlyn Heights cases are household members of existing cases and have been isolating throughout their infectious period.

The Mount Duneed and Clifton Springs cases remain under investigation.

A number of exposure sites have already been identified and have been published. Contact tracing interviews are continuing and any further exposure sites will be listed on the Department of Health website.

There are two COVID-positive patients in University Hospital Geelong in a stable condition. University Hospital Geelong is a COVID streaming hospital for COVID-positive patients in our region and metropolitan Melbourne.

We would like to remind the Geelong community to remain vigilant and get tested at the first sign of COVID-19 symptoms, however mild.

We have reactivated the drive-through testing site at the Geelong Showgrounds to provide additional capacity.

For information on exposure sites, go to https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/exposure-sites

It’s also important that people get vaccinated as soon as there is an opportunity.
